Getting Fit and Fabulous This Summer

Every year, the summer seems to go by faster and faster, doesn’t it? If you’re like us, you can absolutely NOT believe that July is right around the corner. But don’t despair. There’s still time to get in a whole lot more fun... and to check some items off your to-do list, too.

Next on our lists? Prioritizing habits that make us feel fit and fabulous. We’re firm believers that it’s never too late to start devoting more time and attention to health.

Read on for our favorite ways to improve your health and fitness throughout the rest of the summer (and hopefully beyond)!

#1 Make Cardio Fun

Does hearing the word “cardio” make you want to crawl back under the covers? Try a Zumba class or take the kids out for a bike ride if the treadmill isn’t your thing. You should aim for 30-45 minutes of moderate intensity exercise at least three times a week. 

#2 Hit Those Weights

Strength training is a healthy part of every workout routine. We’ve included some great exercises to try out below. None of these require a bar – just a light kettleball or a few dumbbells. If you aren’t sure how to complete an exercise, ask a fellow gym-goer or consult YouTube.


  • Kettlebell Squats
  • Lunges
  • Romanian Dead Lift w/ Kettlebell
  • Step Ups (using a stable bench or box)


  • Dumbbell Shoulder Press
  • Push-ups
  • Resistance Band Rows


  • Crunches
  • Planks

#3 Set Attainable Goals

It can be easy to get discouraged (or even give up) soon after setting a new workout routine. So start small. Set a goal of working out two times a week, and once you’ve consistently hit the gym for a few weeks, increase your goal slowly from there.

Don’t forget to reward yourself, too. We may be a bit biased, but buying yourself a new outfit when you hit a milestone seems like a pretty great reward. :)

#4 Fuel Your Body With Lots of Healthy Fruits and Veggies

Again, an overhaul isn’t the key here. Start small by making sure to include at least one fruit and veggie in every meal. Here are a few great ways to add veggies into your meals:

  • Add spinach to fruit smoothies
  • Mix spinach, peppers, onions and more into omelets
  • Replace rice with cauliflower rice
  • Replace noodles with spaghetti squash or zucchini noodles
  • Make hummus and eat it with veggies for a snack
  • Add a side salad to any meal
